Reel Rock Film Tour 2017
Вид спорта: Скалолазание
Участники: Margo Hayes, Chris Sharma, Brad Gobright, Maureen Beck
Дата/Год выпуска: 02/11/17
Язык комментариев: Английский
Описание: Get ready for climbing’s greatest stories, stars, and sends. REEL ROCK 12 showcases four new short films that will deliver heart-thumping action, big laughs, and pure inspiration. Featuring Margo Hayes, the first woman to climb 5.15; Brad GoBright, an up-and-coming free soloist with a donut addiction; the return of Chris Sharma to the deep water soloing stage, and more.
Above The Sea (16:27)
Chris Sharma remains the world’s greatest practitioner of deep water soloing — climbing ropeless above the sea. Ten years after his generation-defining ascent of a majestic arch, Chris returns to the Mediterranean island of Mallorca where he discovers a beautiful, sweeping wall with small holds running up its face. If he can link the moves, and endure the numerous heart-stopping plunges into the sea, he will establish what may be the world’s hardest deep water solo climb.
Break On Through (25:54)
In high-end modern rock climbing, 5.15 is the top of the difficulty scale, a grade achieved by only a few men and never by a woman. Margo Hayes, a little known 19-year-old from Boulder, Colorado, is determined to change that. To be closer to the world’s hardest routes, she has moved to Europe, where she trains and climbs with the goal of succeeding on two of the most iconic 5.15s in France and Spain. But pushing her body and mind to the absolute limit, she risks injury and failure in her quest to be the first.
Safety Third (27:25)
For most climbers, it’s safety first. But Brad Gobright is definitely not most climbers. Fueled by day-old donuts and unhindered by a fear of falling, this young talent is pushing the limits of scary trad and free solo ropeless climbing. Having survived a few big scares, Brad is determined to make his boldest ascent yet — a first-ever free solo of a heart-stoppingly exposed and difficult route.
Stumped (25:05)
“I don’t want to be known as just a one-armed climber,” says Maureen Beck, “I just want to be a good climber.” Maureen Beck may have been born missing her lower left arm, but that hasn’t stopped her from going hard. She takes whippers on 5.12 and crushes overhanging boulders, while shot-gunning beers. But she is not here to be your inspiration. “People say, ‘Look, a one-armed climber, now I have no excuses.’ I’m like, dude, you never had any excuses in the first place.” Maureen is here to crush the gnar — with one bloody stump helping her get to the top.

About the Film Tour[edit]

The REEL ROCK Film Tour screens climbing and adventure films to audiences around the world. Each year, short films are produced for the film tour ranging in scope from slacklining and highlining to rock climbing and ice climbing.[3]Founders Josh Lowell and Peter Mortimer, after organizing small tours for their individual film releases, collaborated to create the first REEL ROCK Film Tour in 2006.[4] Since then, the tour has grown to over 500 screenings a year with 150,000+ attendees worldwide. REEL ROCK partners with local outdoor equipment retailers, university outing clubs, and climbing gyms to organize screening events for each year's selections.[5] In 2011, the tour began running a series of REEL ROCK FEST events aimed at bringing the climbing and outdoors community together for a weekend of athlete clinics, climbing competitions, film screenings, community stewardship, and more.[6]

REEL ROCK 13 Film Tour 2018[edit]

REEL ROCK 13 features four new climbing adventure films: Age of Ondra, featuring Adam Ondra, who is widely proclaimed as the best climber in the world, sets out to be the first person to flash the climbing grade of 5.15a; Madaleine Sorkin, in Valley of the Moon, bands together with two Israeli climbers to establish a world class big wall climb in the desert of Jordan, in hopes of attracting tourism through the means of international climbing; Sender Films Producer, Zachary Barr, sets out across the US all the way to Russia to learn more about the lesser known climbing discipline of speed climbing, in Up To Speed; and Queen Maud Land follows Alex Honnold, Jimmy Chin, Conrad Anker, Cedar Wright, Anna Pfaff, and Savannah Cummins, as they set out on a climbing expedition to the coldest place on Earth, Antarctica.

REEL ROCK 12 Film Tour 2017[edit]

REEL ROCK 12 premieres four new short films: Break On Through, featuring Margo Hayes, the first woman to climb 5.15; Brad Gobright, in Safety Third, who's an up-and-coming free soloist with a donut addiction; the return of Chris Sharma to the deep water soloing stage in Above The Sea; and introducing the best (and spunkiest) one-handed climber in the world Maureen Beck who stars in Stumped. The Tour expanded to over 500 screenings this year.[7]

REEL ROCK 9 Film Tour 2014[edit]

The feature length documentary Valley Uprising was shown this year.In the shady campgrounds of Yosemite valley, climbers carved out a counterculture lifestyle of dumpster-diving and wild parties that clashed with the conservative values of the National Park Service. And up on the walls, generation after generation has pushed the limits of climbing, vying amongst each other for supremacy on Yosemite's cliffs. Valley Uprising is the riveting, unforgettable tale of this bold rock climbing tradition in Yosemite National Park: half a century of struggle against the laws of gravity—and the laws of the land. This year the Tour increased its global spread, screening in 49 countries across the world.

REEL ROCK 8 Film Tour 2013[edit]

REEL ROCK 8 consisted of the following films: The Sensei, featuring Daniel Woods and Yuji Hirayama in Japan and exploring the mysterious spires of Borneo, Hazel Findlay smashing standards in the UK in Spice Girl, and traveling to the towering faces of Morocco with Emily Harrington, and High Tension, a multiple award-winning documentary with Ueli Steck, Simone Moro and Melissa Arnot––a film chronicling the 2013 conflict on Mount Everest between European climbers and a group of sherpas.
